It is a very effective and safe method if executed correctly (e.g. avoiding alcohol, not removing the wires, ect...). It teaches one self-control and portion-control. Aside from that, it boosts one esteem by feeling the accomplishment of weight loss and no longer consuming vast amounts of food that were once unavoidable. I'm extremely happy with OJW. It has not presented any health issues. As a student who when stressed resorts to food, OJW makes me feel optimistic and positive because I feel that I'm able to avoid binging on solid foods and control my food intake and focus on my work. I am able to focus on my studies and not focus on food. I realize often that I'm thirsty as opposed to hungry and most times I mistake thirst for hunger. Aside from that, my grocery bill has been greatly modified as a result of OJW, which is superb! Although one is confined to liquids when their jaw is wired, there are still excellent sources of vitamins and minerals from liquids (e.g. freshly squeezed or non-concentrated orange juice, low sodium V-8, light/fat-free yogurt, scrambled egg whites, vegetable/chicken noodle soup which if cooked enough is soft enough to pass through the wires, skim/reduced fat milk, 100% fruit smoothies, pureed apples to produce apple sauce, ect...). I have, in no way, ever felt under-nourished, starved, or vitamin-deficient. I have never felt any better in my life! Whenever food pops up in my mind, I go to the gym and walk on the treadmill. OJW has had a very positive effect on my life and it is very effective, at least for me, in terms of controlling my weight while at college and avoiding the pounds that are commonly associated with the rigors and stresses of academia. I am able to talk perfectly. My voice is in no way hindered. Most people cannot even tell my mouth is wired because my lips move, my voice is completely fine and my teeth don't appear clenched at all. If I ever feel the need for some sort of reward or treat, I will most often buy myself clothes or have some fat-free whipped cream with sugar-free jell-o. OJW has helped me be on track and tackle my weight loss goals. I was wired for 7 weeks and then I stopped the treatment from May 7th, 2008 - August 1, 2008. I have resumed with the jaw wiring and wired my jaws on August 1, 2008 considering that the academic school year is about to approach. Everything is perfect. :)</td></tr><tr class=""><td>3. </td><td style="white-space:nowrap;">8/27/2008 1:35:00 AM</td><td>OJW gave me the start that I needed to get my compulsive overeating under control. As a result of being wired, I was able to identify and rectify triggers which contributed to my weight gain. I am grateful to OJW because without it, not only was I depressed, but heading down a path of destruction. My family is plagued with diabetes, hypertension, renal failure, etc. and I feel OJW not only aided me in losing weight and gaining self control, but it gave me a new lease on life.</td></tr><tr class=""><td>4. </td><td style="white-space:nowrap;">8/27/2008 2:40:00 PM</td><td>I think that OJW should be a viable option for people - it may not have been effective for me, but I think that it has merrit and it could be a very positive option for many others.</td></tr><tr class=""><td>5. </td><td style="white-space:nowrap;">8/28/2008 2:05:00 PM</td><td>It can be effective if you are dedicated to your life changes. My compulsive overeating problem is being DIRECTLY controlled by having my jaw wired shut, WITHOUT expensive and risky surgery.</td></tr><tr class=""><td>7. </td><td style="white-space:nowrap;">9/15/2008 6:16:00 PM</td><td>It is very uncomfortable.
