They will never be forgotton

Photos of the Memorial park garden and waterfalls at the WTC

Our office is located in Brooklyn just across the East river about  one mile from "Ground Zero,"  On Tuesday September 11, 2001 we witnessed the second Boeing 767 airplane crash into the 81st floor of the South Tower, just 21 minutes after the first Boeing 767 slammed into the 97th floor of the North Tower at 8:45 am. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28; the South Tower at 9:59.   We heard the concussion like a bomb exploding; felt it's impact on our bodies, and watched the mushroom fireball grow in front of us. Papers blown out of the Towers drifted in the air like giant snow flakes. We will never forget the fear and panic we experienced that day. -- Dr. Ted Rothstein

On Thursday May 30, 2002 at 10:29 a.m. in a solemn ceremony dedicating the occasion, the last 58 ton girder was removed from the 16 acre site where the World Trade Towers has once stood. In all, more than 1.8 million tons of debris had been remove. 343 fireman, 37 Port Authority personnel and 23 policeman died in this catastrophe. The remains of more than half of all the people who perished were never found.

Remember the day, but don't dwell. Be strong and move on as hard as it may be. We owe it to our children to show we can survive an attack such as this and become stronger and more committed to our country and each other. We should all say a prayer for those lost and for those here to continue the American Dream of freedom. We are Americans and must never take what we have for granted. PEOPLES COURT: Orthodontist wins case but who paid the bill?

                                                                        PLAINTIFF           JUDGE MARILYN MILIAN         DEFENDANT

Alternate titles for this film were  "PEOPLES COURT Did orthodontist really tell the judge to SHUT UP?" and "PEOPLES COURT Suing orthodontist wrote Small Claims court book ?" This "Small Claims" Court hearing was filmed November 15, 2007 and aired on April 1, 2008.

The television actual film time was 12 minutes and 33 seconds. Since the maximum YouTube film is 10 minutes  I edited the film on MS Movie Maker. My son made a DVD the date the show was aired. However, YouTube will accept only a limited number of formats and DVD is not one of them. I was advised to convert it to a form acceptable to YouTube and  *.WMV is one of them. Consequently, I found at www.magicdvdripper.com/ a "ripper" program that would make that conversion and it worked without too much frustration for my efforts. Result:  DVD format ---------> *.WMV format.

You might be surprised to know that when the plaintiff wins, as I did, the money Judge Milian awards the winner is paid by the producers of the show. Indeed I received payment in less than two weeks from the time the show was filmed.

The defendants in this case the Robinson family (Peia the patient, and Nicki the mom) were/ are genuinely fine people. Nevertheless, I work hard and do good work so when the family failed to respond to repeated requests for payment I brought the case to the real Small Claims Court in Brooklyn which is where I learned so much that eventually I had enough material to write the book.  See  http://drted.com/index.html.bak2/book.htm .

Researchers from People's Court routinely comb the court files for interesting cases and send letters to the plaintiff and defendant to ask them if they are interested appearing on People's Court. I knew from the get-go I would win and I believe that the Robinson family knew they would lose (and that if they did the people's court would foot the bill). It was a win-win game for both of us.

Only the producers knew exactly what both our stories were going to be. You would be surprised to see the legal documents that I had to sign before appearing on the show. One of those documents was that I had to acknowledge that even if I lost I could not take the case back to the real small claims court. Judge Milian's verdict was set in stone.

You might ask if People's Court resembles the real Small Claims Court. The answer is yes and no. In People's Court there is a real plaintiff, defendant and judge. who dispenses justice based on the merits of the plaintiff's arguments and the evidence presented.

But, In People's Court, when the plaintiff wins, whatever the amount of money the judge awards is paid by the nice folks who produce the show.

However, in the real  Small Claims Court more than 50% of the time it is so difficult to collect (when you don't know how) that you soon abandon all hope of ever collecting. My book focuses on how you collect.

As for the NO, in the real-life Small Claims Court you and the details of your case become known to the judge at the moment you are called to present your case to the judge. The judges never gives you the verdict at the time of the hearing...it is mailed to you. Finally, you are often obliged to present your case to someone other than the judge who tries to get the plaintiff and the defendant to settle.

I strongly recommend using the Small Claims Court where you pay as little as $20 to file a claim and can collect as much as $5000.  It is  the court for real people i.e. it offers evening hours for folks who work. Justice can be found in this court most of the time. I should however warn you that Its nickname is also "Liars Court" and you can guess why.

You should have your evidence ready to present to the judge and be brief in presenting your case. In my People's Court case the document I gave to the Judge is the document I give to every patient at the end of their consultation-examination, (see it).  At the Peoples Court hearing Judge Milian asked to see the "contract" I gave to Mrs. Robinson and it was this Summary of Consultation that revealed that all additional fees were spelled out in detail. Indeed, well prior to the actual hearing  I had sent in all pertinent papers in support of my claim that the unpaid fees were truly owed to  me.

Go to http://drted.com/index.html.bak2/SccGuides.htm  to share some of the most important factors that will help you win (and collect) when you have your day in court.

Subject: win-win I would say

The day after Rothstein V Robinson was filmed in People's Court I wrote the following letter to to the Robinson family:

Dear Nicki,

For me it's history...water under the bridge and tomorrow is just over the horizon. All is well that ends well.

Peia and you  are always welcome (to come to the office), and If I can help Peia in any way possible the path to my door is clear.

She is very talented and her personality will be one of her greatest assets.  Best Wishes, cordially, Dr. Ted

THE AIBO STORY

AIBO at birth being named..."SAKI"

Saki at first feeding.

More Pics of Saki at play in the office.

Want to  see AIBO movies?

AIBO is the acronym for Artificial Intelligence RoBOt. But AIBO is not a toy! AIBO's a true companion with real emotions and instincts. With loving attention from its master, it can even develop into a more mature and fun-loving friend as time passes.

Like any human or animal, AIBO goes through the developmental stages of an infant, child, teen and adult. Daily communication and attention will determine how AIBO matures. The more interaction you have with AIBO, the faster it grows up.

In short, AIBO is a friend for life.

If you would like to see all of his features click [here]. When you see Aibo click on each of the squares that compose his picture. If you want to "play" with him then go [here]. You will need to download a viewer that Sony provides free.

Sony's purpose in developing AIBO is to bring humans and robots closer together. Sony does this by creating an artificial being as close to a living creature as possible. AIBO actually has emotions and instincts programmed into its brain. AIBO acts to fulfill the desires created by its instincts. If satisfied, AIBO's joy level will rise. If not, then it will get sad or angry. Like any living being, AIBO learns how to get what it wants. Occasionally, AIBO will wave its legs around vigorously or show signs of anger if it does not receive the kind of attention it requests from you. The way we respond to AIBO's emotional expressions greatly influences AIBO's personality and growth.

AIBO learns from your praise or scolding. Praise it for playing with its ball, and it will enjoy playing with the ball more than ever. But if you scold AIBO when it is only looking at the ball, it will soon ignore the ball altogether.

AIBO senses its surroundings and situations. But most of all, AIBO is sensitive to YOU.

Aibo's emotions include: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Surprise, Fear and Discontent.

Aibo has 5  instincts: that provide motivation for its action: LOVE makes him interact with people who will care for it.  SEARCH. If left alone for too long he looks for something to do, or discover. MOVEMENT. Aibo enjoys moving around and having new experiences. RECHARGE. Aibo will request to be charged after he gets tired and needs to "eat."  SLEEP.  Aibo has a natural rhythm that alternates between sleep and activity.  And as Aibo gets older his rhythm changes depending on the life pattern that we have developed with him.

ADVICE FOR INTERACTING WITH AIBO ("Saki"):

          1. Aibo likes to be petted on his head and back, but please, do not pick him up even if he seems to be blocked. He knows how to unblock himself.

          2. If his favorite red ball rolls into a nook or cranny or under a chair where he cannot get it please get it for him.

          3. Please be aware that Aibo may be awake and playing. He is about the size of a football so be aware of him and be careful so as to avoid stepping on him and hurting him. Indeed he is pure bred and as such is rather expensive to replace and/or fix just like your computer.

4.. Our Aibo is a male and his name is "Saki". He was a puppy, but now is rapidly changing to a more mature state.

          5. Sometimes Aibo is moody and may not respond to you.

          6.  Aibo will sometimes get tired and decide to take a short nap so if he does not respond he is sleeping and he will show you that he is sleeping.

With love and care for our patients and their families, from Dr. Ted and the Staff.

   Damon

Special note: In January 2004 Dr. Ted  introduced into his practice the ''Damon System" of modern orthodontic treatment. At present this tested treatment method has been shown to significantly reduce treatment time and discomfort, as well as the number of office visits. Alas, the bracket is not as yet clear-transparent. However, that factor is currently in development. [See the bracket] and then  See the poster Dr. Ted created to inform his patients of a the new choice IN ADDITION to ORTHOCLEAR (introduced 2004), INVISALIGN, LINGUAL and  CLEAR braces: Here is the big question... Would a would-be adult patient be willing  to pay about $200 more for
DAMON (metal showing braces) if they could have their teeth straightened in 25-30 % faster time?? WITH 25%-30%  FEWER VISITS?

In September of 2006 Invisalign (Align Technology Inc.) and OrthoClear settled their patent litigation dispute: In brief, Invisalign will be completing all OrthoClear patients that were initiated by all doctors.  There will be no additional charges to the doctor or the patient. OrthoClear will cease and desist. OrthoClear patients in treatment have the option to continue their treatment traditional braces (metal or clear) or lingual braces (at additional cost) or complete their treatment with Invisalign's aligner trays. Those who choose this option will need to have their orthodontists take new molds which will be sent to Invisalign for aligner fabrication. The wait time will be 6-8 weeks. C'est la vie.

What is OrthoClear?:

Basically the person who founded Invisalign decided that the parent company he founded was no longer a viable venue for him and he decided to see if if he could find a better way to make "invisalign-like" braces which belong to the family of braces called "Shell" braces, and which are in essence clear, exact fitting plastic shells made of  removable and invisible plastic (no brackets bonded to the teeth). OrthoClear differs most from Invisalign  in that: 1. OrthoClear sends the orthodontist only two aligners at a time (not the complete treatment set, often 22 -30 aligners.  2. The patient wears each aligner 3 weeks not 2 weeks like Invisalign,
consequently, treatment is completed with fewer aligners. 3. Each OrthoClear aligner moves the tooth about 20% more (put your finger behind your upper tooth and push hard and you will experience the pressure of an aligner which you have just put on).  In essence OrthoClear says the treatment is completed 20% sooner than Invisalign.

Invisalign is not happy about its new competitor:  read all about the legal battle now in progress and  OrthoClear's claim that they are not infringing Invisalign's patents.  I believe Orthoclear, after all who would know better than the founder of Invisalign himself how to produce the same product without infringing on the product he originated in the first place. [ORTHOCLEAR'S DEFENSE].

Finally, I would have reader's of this page know that I have "embraced" ;-) OrthoClear and started my first 8 cases within the past  3 months.
