Standing Ovation for Dr. Ted and Orthodontic Jaw Wiring from a delighted patient
C. writes, I would like to first tell you thank you so much for the wonderful experience I have had as one of your patients. It has been great!!! I could not ask for better service, not only from you but from your staff too. I wanted to write some time ago, but I have just been crazy with work and life.
Also I would like to see if I could make an appointment with you next week (April 14th) to get my brackets taken off. I would prefer mornings, if that works for you. If not the 14th, maybe the evening of the 13th would work for me too. Please let me know.
Thanks,
C.

A STANDING OVATION :-)
Prior to contacting Dr. Ted, I did a lot of research on the subject of OJW. I was nervous about doing something that was perceived as drastic and didn’t really know what to expect or what to think or even know how to find out how to get it done. Anyway, once I found out about Dr Ted everything just came together. He had quite a bit of detailed information about OJW on his site. Not only were all the articles helpful but the YouTube videos were great in helping actually seeing what was going on. By the time I decided to call, I felt like it was a very good option for me.
When I first spoke with Dr Ted, he was very engaging and answered all my questions. He asked me a number of questions to see if I was going to be a good fit. You can very much tell that he is not just doing this to make a quick buck. He very much believes in what he is doing and puts you at rest from the very start.
From the time I sent in all the required paperwork till the day of my first treatment, Dr Ted was in contact with me the whole time and very much eased any doubts and fears I might have had. On the day of the treatment, I took the train, which is only a few short blocks from his office. At first I was worried about taking the train to an unknown neighborhood, but it is so easy to get to his office and the neighborhood is awesome. A lot of cute little stores and markets and shops.
Anyway, once I got to the office, the staff was super nice and helpful and just really friendly. They worked with me with the last of the paperwork and talked with me before Dr. Ted came out. If you have the chance to see any of the YouTube videos before going in, please do so, because the man in the videos is exactly who you get to meet in person. He was very nice and engaging. He sat and talked with me for a good 45 minutes about my thoughts and expatiations of what was going to happen now and what to expect afterwards. It was great and helped me really focus on what was about to happen. The actually process of putting on the brackets only took maybe 15 minutes. Very easy and didn’t hurt at all. After that he showed me how to wire my own mouth and had me do it a few times to make sure I could do it on my own. It was very easy once you get the hang of it. He had me speak and I was surprised at how easy it was. I still sounded the same and you could clearly understand everything I was saying. When I went to look in the mirror to put on my lipstick, I discovered one of the first issues with having OJW…I had a hard time with putting on lipstick without opening my mouth!!
After leaving his office, I thought I would be in some kind of pain or people would notice…but none of that occurred. No one seemed to notice my mouth wired unless I was actually speaking with them. I was still able to speak on the phone, nothing was muffled. I did have a slight headache the following day, but that was due to the change of food intake. Other than that, I didn’t really feel like anything physically changed with me. Mentally… now that is a different story. Even though Dr Ted did try to prepare me, I didn’t really know what to expect. At first, I went through a lot of trial and error. Many different types of soups and juices and shakes. The first few days, it was very hard. I was used to eating and drink certain things that I just couldn’t have. I am not going to lie… it really messed with my head. After the first week, things got a lot easier. I had lost about 8lbs. Things got a little easier but it was still hard but I lost another 5. After another two weeks it was time to take the wires off and I had lost about 20 lbs. I was so excited but worried that I was going to go back to my old ways. Well, when I tried to eat something, I couldn’t really eat all of it because my stomach seem to had shrunk and I wasn’t as hungry as I thought I was. After that, I had them on for another six months. I figured out over time, things I liked and didn’t like and what was and wasn’t easy to eat with my mouth wired. I have to be honest, over time, not having to worry about what I was going to eat became very liberating to me. Most days I had oatmeal for breakfast and soup for lunch and Jell-O or yogurt for a snack. Dinner was the only tricky part. Some days I had soup. Others I would have hummus. But I didn’t take too much for me to become full.
All in all, I have lost 63lbs in the six months. I have to say I feel pretty great. I didn’t realize how many issues I had with food. A lot of times, I would just want food, just to want it. It was all in my head. I didn’t realize just how many of the issues I had with food, have been in my head. I have had my mouth unwired for the last two weeks to see if I was going to go crazy with junk food and I can honestly say that I haven’t had the desire to do so at all. I have eaten a hamburger and some ice cream, but I can only eat half of it and it doesn’t taste as great as it did before.
In conclusion, I just want to say thank you to Dr Ted for this great option to weight loss. It really worked for me. Before this option, I was thinking about a number of different diets and such and just felt pretty hopeless but I am so happy and excited about how everything turned out. For once, I am not afraid that if I go off this diet, I am going to gain all my weight back. I can see how this wouldn’t work out for some people. People who are very weak willed and find reason for things not working out, won’t do well with this. Yes, it is very easy to cut the wires and eat something, so it would totally defeat the purpose of doing this. It will mess with your head at times too. I would randomly want cotton candy or wedding cake at times. Not sure why, but I would.
